See the paths visitors take
Pick a page and see which page people read before it, where they went next, and how many left there.
Open Paths
Open a site and click the Paths tab. The page is called Visitor paths. It follows the range at the top: Today, 7 days or 30 days.
Pick a starting page
Under Start from, you get the 8 pages people landed on most in that range. The busiest one is picked for you. Click another to start there.
The page then shows, for the page you picked:
- How many arrived: for example “/pricing: 240 arrived here”.
- Came from: the pages people read just before this one, top 10. Arrived here first means they landed straight on this page from outside your site.
- Then read: the pages people opened next, top 10.
- How many went on: a bar with the share who opened another page, and the share who left after this one.
Follow the path
Click a page under Then read and it becomes the next step. The steps you’ve taken show under Path so far, and you can click back to any of them. Changing the range or the site starts over.
Each step looks one page back and one page ahead, based on everyone who saw that page. It isn’t the full journey of the same group of people from start to finish. So read “Then read” as “after this page, people usually went to…”.
Some things to know
- Only your own pages. To see which websites sent people, use the Sources card on the Overview. See Where visitors come from.
- Single-page apps work too, as long as your app changes the address in the browser. See Single-page apps.
- No visits yet in the range? You’ll see “No visits in this period yet. Paths show up as people move from page to page.” Try a longer range.
