How long your data is kept
Raw visits last about 3 months, daily summaries in History last until you delete the site, and each day's salt is gone a day later.
The short version
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Each visit, as it came in | About 3 months, then deleted on its own |
| One summary per day, for History | Until you delete the site |
| The daily salt behind visitor ids | About a day after its day ends |
| IP addresses | Never stored |
Visits as they came in
Every page view, leave, click and event is stored as one row, with the fields listed in what we collect. These rows power your dashboard: Today, 7 days and 30 days, every list, the paths and the bot details.
They’re kept for about 3 months, then removed automatically. Nobody has to do anything.
Daily summaries, for History
So you can look back further than 3 months, Crustat writes one summary for each day of each site. A summary holds that day’s totals (visitors, page views, bounce rate and time on site) and the top 10 pages, entry pages, referrers, channels, countries and devices.
These summaries contain no visitor ids and nothing about any single visit. They’re kept for as long as the site exists, so History keeps growing. See look back further with History.
History begins at the site’s first visit, and reaches back at most about 3 months before History was first filled in for that site. Older days weren’t kept, because the raw visits behind them had already expired.
The daily salt
Visitor ids are made with a random salt that changes every UTC day. Each salt is used only during its own day and deleted about a day after that day ends. Once it’s gone, that day’s ids can’t be traced back to an IP address or browser by anyone, us included. See how the daily salt works.
What deleting a site does
When an owner or admin deletes a site under Site settings → Delete site:
- Straight away: the site leaves the dashboard, with its History summaries, goals, events, share link and Google Search Console connection.
- Within about 5 minutes: Crustat stops recording visits from the line on your pages.
- Over the next 3 months: the raw visits already stored can’t be picked out and erased one by one. Nothing can show them any more, and they expire on their own like all the others.
Deleting a site can’t be undone. See add and manage your sites.
When a workspace has no plan
If the free trial ends and no plan is chosen, Crustat keeps recording for a while, then stops. 90 days after it stops, the workspace’s sites are deleted, exactly as above. The owner gets an email before recording stops. See plans, trial and billing.
Other things that are kept briefly
- Search words from Google Search Console are saved for up to an hour, so the page loads quickly. Disconnecting Search Console deletes the connection and the saved words.
- CSV files and share images you download live on your own computer. Crustat keeps no copy; share images are made in your browser.
