Your dashboard, panel by panel

A tour of a site's stats page: the header, the date range, the five numbers, the chart, the four lists and the busy-hours grid.

Open a site’s stats

Click a site on All sites, or pick it in the site menu at the top. You land on its Overview tab.

The site header

  • The status: Live once visits arrive, a number like 3 online now when people are on the site, or Waiting for the first visit before anything has come in.
  • The site stepper (“2 of 5”) goes to the previous or next site. The [ and ] keys do the same.
  • The tabs: Overview, Goals, Events, Paths, Search, History and Settings.

Pick a range

Choose Today, 7 days (the default) or 30 days. Days and hours follow your site’s time zone.

Every number is compared with the same stretch of time just before, cut at the same time of day: at 3pm, Today is compared with yesterday up to 3pm.

For anything longer than 30 days, use History. There’s no custom date range on this page.

Pick a domain

If your site runs on more than one address (say, example.com and shop.example.com), a menu appears next to the range: All of example.com, or one address at a time. It changes every panel on the page. It’s the only filter on the page. See Add and manage your sites for adding addresses.

The summary and the spike notice

At the top, a few plain sentences say what happened (see Reading the summary). When today is clearly busier or quieter than usual, a notice above them says by how much. See Get told about spikes and drops.

The five numbers

  • Visitors: different people, worked out day by day.
  • Page views: every page opened.
  • Bounce rate: the share of visits that left after one page. Lower is better.
  • Session time: how long a visit lasts, on average.
  • Online: people on the site in the last 5 minutes, with a right now pill.

Each number has a small pill with its change against the period before. It reads new when there’s nothing earlier to compare with.

Click a number to show it on the chart. The chart has one bar per hour on Today (hours still to come are dotted) and one bar per day on 7 or 30 days. Click Online and the chart shows people per minute over the last 30 minutes, with the pages they’re on, where they came from and their countries.

In the corner of this card, Download CSV saves the chart as a file and Share this week (or Share today, Share this month) makes an image of the numbers. See Download your numbers and Share your stats.

Under the chart, a line like “12 bot visits left out” appears when Crustat set traffic aside. See How bots are kept out.

The four lists

CardTabs
SourcesChannel, Referrer, Campaign
LocationsCountry, Region, City
PagesPage, Entry (first page seen), Exit links (links to other sites people clicked)
DevicesBrowser, System, Device

Each tab shows the top 10. When a list has more, See all opens a panel with up to 100 rows and a search box. Where visitors come from explains the Sources card.

When people came

The grid at the bottom shades each hour by how busy it was (each day, on 30 days) and names your busiest time, in your site’s time zone.

Keeping it fresh

The page updates itself every minute while you have it open, and the Online number every 30 seconds. The Refresh button fetches everything again right away.
