Reading the dashboard summary

How the plain sentences above your numbers are written, and when each one shows up or stays quiet.

What the summary is for

Charts show what happened. The few sentences above them, under In plain words, say it out loud: how many people came, how that compares, where they came from, what they read. A sentence only appears when there’s something real to say, so a quiet summary is on purpose.

The summary follows the range you picked: In plain words · today, · last 7 days or · last 30 days. The same sentences open each site’s panel in your email reports.

To fold it away, click Hide the summary. It becomes a small Show the summary button. Your choice is kept in this browser, for every site.

The visitors sentence

It always comes first: “Today you had 42 visitors.” (or “This week…”, “These 30 days…”).

  • Under 10 visitors: that’s the whole summary. Nothing else is said, because small numbers swing too much to mean anything.
  • The period before had under 10 visitors: you get the plain sentence, with no comparison.
  • A change under 5%: ”…, about the same as yesterday.” (or “last week”, “the 30 days before”).
  • Anything bigger: ”…, 23% more than last week.” or ”…, 12% fewer than yesterday.”

Today is compared with yesterday up to the same time of day, so the morning isn’t measured against a whole day.

Where they came from

If the biggest channel brought at least 10% of your visitors, it gets a sentence. A channel is the kind of place a visit came from (see Where visitors come from):

ChannelThe sentence says they…
Directcame straight to your site
Searchcame from search engines
Socialcame from social media
Emailcame from email and newsletters
Paidcame from ads
AIcame from AI assistants
Referralcame from other websites

The share is put into words:

  • 95% or more: “Nearly all came from search engines.”
  • 48% to 52%: “Half came from search engines.”
  • Above 52%: “Most (72%) came from search engines.”
  • Below that: “41% came from search engines.”

The summary talks about channels, not single websites. To see that Google or a newsletter sent the visits, open the Referrer or Campaign tab of the Sources card.

The most visited page

“Your most visited page was /pricing.” It only shows when the top page had more views than the second one. On a tie, the summary says nothing rather than pick one. When the top page is your home page, it reads “Your most visited page was your homepage.”

The country

If one country brought at least 25% of your visitors, it gets a sentence too, with the same share words: “Most (83%) visited from the United States.” or “31% visited from Germany.”

When there’s nothing

With no page views in the range, there’s no summary at all. Before the very first visit, the page shows Waiting for your first visit instead. See What happens after you install.
